People of Tanzania
People of Tanzania
On last summer's trip to Tanzania, 2008, we not only saw wonderful animals, but had the opportunity to meet and visit with two groups of Maasai women. Our group was primarily women, all interested in knowing about the culture of women in Tanzania. We learned about many of their daily chores and life as a Maasai woman. They are a friendly and happy people. We also visited a school and joined them in singing "Row, Row Row Your Boat." Our guide was very knowledgeable and shared with us many aspects of local traditions and customs. Traveling with Overseas Adventure Travel, www.oat.com, is always an adventure of learning and discovery.

TANZANIA..TANZANIA - Darwin's Nightmare
TANZANIA..TANZANIA - Darwin's Nightmare
Sometime in the 1960's, in the heart of Africa, a new animal was introduced into Lake Victoria as a little scientific experiment. The Nile Perch, a voracious predator, extinguished almost the entire stock of the native fish species. However, the new fish multiplied so fast, that its white fillets are today exported all around the world. Huge hulking ex-Soviet cargo planes come daily to collect the latest catch in exchange for their southbound cargo... Kalashnikovs and ammunitions for the uncounted wars in the dark center of the continent This booming multinational industry of fish and weapons has created an ungodly globalized alliance on the shores of the world's biggest tropical lake: an army of local fishermen, World bank agents, homeless children, African ministers, EU-commissioners, Tanzanian prostitutes and Russian pilots.

TANZANIA - POLICE ABUSE BRITISH INVESTORS
WELCOME TO 'INVESTOR FRIENDLY' TANZANIA In 2004, Benjamin and Millie Mengi sold though their company Fiona Tanzania, the lease to Silverdale & Mbono Farms in the Hai District of the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania to Silverdale Tanzania Ltd a company in which British investor Stewart Middleton ownes a controlling interest. One year later, after being paid in full and signing a receipt Benjamin Mengi began negotiating with another British investor Konrad Legg, of Tudeley Estates, to sell the lease to him a second time. Mengi demanded that the British investors handed the lease back to him stating that he had not been paid in full and that $7000 was still owing to him. When the investors refused a four year campaign of terror, legal abuse and harassment was unleashed against them which was and continues to be facilitated by the Tanzanian police force, judiciary, State institutions and government Ministers. The police have persistently terrorised, imprisoned and unlawfully arrested and imprisoned Stewart Middleton and his Tanzanian staff. In the main the abuse has ben led by the Moshi police headed and directly facilitated by Mr Lucas Ng'hoboko the Regional Police commander for the Kilimanjaro region who the investors describe as an overtly corrupt police offcier supporting the criminal actiivities of Banjamin Mengi. President Kikwete has promised the British government that the situation would be fairly resolved. He reneged on his promise and the investors had to flee for ...

Tanzanian Miraculous Boy, 5yrs, Converts 1000+ To Islam Part 1/2.
Tanzanian Miraculous Boy, 5yrs, Converts 1000+ To Islam Part 1/2.
According to a huge number of online sources, a 5 year old Kenyan boy - sometimes he's claimed to be Tanzanian or Nigerian - can recite the entire Qur'an and preach in at least 5 languages. The boy is alleged to have converted thousands of people all over the world. This article which was printed in the "Scotland on Sunday" newspaper seems to be the original source for the story circulating on a large number of Islamic websites: There are orphans and street children everywhere. So much so that the sight of another small child standing on a street corner hardly merits a second glance. But only when the boy opens his mouth to speak do onlookers realise that Shariff Idd is special. The five year-old speaks in five languages - English French Italian, Swahili and Arabic - even though he is completely uneducated. Shariff is a preacher who draws crowds of thousands in Kenya to his increasingly regular sermons. The Libyan leader Colonel Muammar al Gaddafi is a great supporter following an audience with him earlier this year. Last week was a milestone for the child introduced to gawping throngs as the "miracle boy" of East Africa. He smiled triumphantly when told he had notched up his one thousandth conversion to Islam in a country where Muslims are a minority. Tours of France and Britain now beckon, according to Hajji Maroulin, one of the boy's four guardians. he will travel as a missionary on a trip to e financed by a Muslim businessman from the Ivory Coast. "When he is not ...

"War Eagle" from Tanzania
"War Eagle" from Tanzania
Nine undergraduate and graduate students from the College of Education under the leadership of Dr. Lisa Kasmer journeyed to Arusha, Tanzania in May 2010. This Study Abroad program provided these pre-service teachers an opportunity to become aware of how teaching is practiced differently in different cultural contexts and learn about Tanzania customs, values and traditions. During the week, students taught in local schools (including a lesson on how to offer a proper "War Eagle!") and had daily Kiswhaili lessons. The weekends were spent camping in Maasai villages, hiking on Mt. Meru, and taking a four-day safari in the Ngorogoro Crater and the Sergenti.
